Leo

Leo is available for adoption

Sponsored by Toba, in honour of Toby, Riley and Penny. Every furbaby deserves a loving home and happiness.

Meet Leo!

Leo is a tiny but mighty force. He is a chihuahua mix and comes with everything a chihuahua has to offer. He is confident, he is brave and he is feisty. A big personality in a tiny body.

His big black eyes really stand out against his blonde fur and just add to his cuteness, unfortunately that’s about all they offer for him. Leo is essentially blind. We feel he is able to see shapes/shadows in bright settings when they are right up close in his face, beyond that he doesn’t see much. But that doesn’t stop him, His confidence over rules any short comings he might have. He doesn’t go slowly into anything, he marches right into every situation full steam not bothered. His humans will need to ensure his home is safe from dangers i.e. stairs/ledges as he will just walk right off the edge without a care.

Leo is a little shadow. He follows the humans around everywhere, even up the stairs to chase after them. Whatever it takes for him to be close to the humans. He is a happy little guy and when he does settle, he really just wants to lay on the couch beside you. This is where his chihuahua side really comes out, when he’s sleeping out in the open. He gets startled and a little snappy out of defense/nervousness. Easily managed by giving him a gentle verbal heads up that you are there.

Leo has his own little penned space in the living room of his foster house where he is free to come and go as he pleases during the day, when the house is quiet he will be found snoozing on his bed. When is dinner time and at night, he is locked in his pen where he is happily uninterrupted and safe. He sleeps all night without a sound.

He has very quickly figured out the layout of the foster house and moves around freely (with the occasional bump into walls or objects) but he knows where the water dish is, he knows where his ‘room’ is. He follows sounds as soon as there is something. He is not afraid to run and investigate.

There are dogs of all sizes in the foster home and he has no issues with any. He chases the sound of the big dog around the yard when he has zoomies.

House training is hit and miss. He doesn’t know how/when to signal to go outside. He is taken out regularly, but generally just follows the sounds instead of getting on with his business. Once he gets into his forever home and has more time to settle and really get into a routine, he should be a lot better.

We feel Leo would do best in a home with older kids who are dog savvy or none at all. He would be happy with other dogs in the house to have a friend to guide him, but not required as he is a confident little guy and would love to have all the attention to himself.

Leo is a silly little, happy guy who will bring a lot of joy to a home and a great snuggle buddy for an empty lap!
