Beau

Beau has been adopted!

Sponsored by Ilona and Alex for their grandparents birthdays. Happy Birthday, Grandma and Grandpa.

Meet Beau! He is just about the sweetest pup you’ll ever meet. Don’t let his youthful looks fool you though – he’s 9! He is a shepherd/collie cross with a heart of gold. He is completely house trained, knows basic commands, walks well on a leash, and is very quiet. He loves to play and he does a little dance every time he gets to eat! He loves long walks, cuddles, and playing outside. Beau was originally adopted from Save Me 5 years ago. Over the last 5 years Beau’s family grew with the addition of two young kids. Unfortunately, Beau did not adjust well to this change in dynamic and it was decided that it was in his best interest to be returned to our rescue. When he originally came back into our care Beau spent a few weeks with our trainers at North Grey K9. We wanted to have a full understanding of his behavior before determining his ideal home. We learned a number of things while in their care, that he is a goofy boy who loves attention, that he loves to learn and perform tricks, and that he is a dog who is very good at communicating when he is stressed. But like any dog, issues can arise when those signals are not being listened to. As a result we are looking for a calm household that can provide Beau with a quiet space when required. We are looking for a home with no kids due to that fact that we know Beau finds them overstimulating. Beau is also very uncomfortable with having his feet touched. There have been no incidents while in our care but we are aware that there have been some in the past when his foot was sore and was touched. Although his response was not unreasonable for a dog in pain, we will still be recommending that Beau always be muzzled when his feet need to be handled in the home, groomers or vets. Beau also has a stunning coat, but it is a coat that requires regular maintenance so his adoptive home will need to be prepared to take him for grooming every 3 months. In regard to the kind of home…. detached, apartment, yard, no yard Beau is as easy as they come. All he asks for is to be near his people and for a couple of walks a day. At 9 years old he is starting to slow down but still loves a good play session especially with another dog. He has tested well with cats but does find them quite interesting so a dog savvy cat would be recommended.

We have all fallen madly in love with Beau and can’t wait to find him the perfect home to live out his retirement years.
