Sylvie is a very sweet girl! She is from Northern Ontario, joined our rescue in March and has made the journey to down to Southern Ontario to find herself a forever home! Sylvie is a beautiful pup, who loves every person she meets. She has the best wiggles when she gets excited and would love to wiggle every day with her future forever person!
Sylvie used to live outside, so she was unsure about being in a home when she first arrived, but has since grown to enjoy the comforts! She has found her favourite dog bed and will hang out on there when her foster family is relaxing after work. If allowed, she would also love to get up on the couch and snuggle – she loves her cuddles!
Sylvie absolutely loves her people! She follows her foster mom around anywhere she goes, so if you don’t mind a bit of a velcro pup, she’s the dog for you! She will also come up and give a quick little kiss on your arm or leg as she’s walking by to let you know she’s there – it really is the cutest thing!
Sylvie is a very quiet pup. She doesn’t react to other dogs when she’s outside on a walk, she doesn’t react to the outside noises when she’s inside the house, and she even greeted new people in the home without a peep (despite her foster siblings barking around her). The only noises she really makes are big sighs or little huffs when she wants attention, or when she needs to change positions on her dog bed and is being a little dramatic!
When it comes to the crate, Sylvie isn’t necessarily a dog who needs a crate and would more than likely be fine in the home with more freedom. She has been tested on her own, not in a crate, and she just lays down with her foster siblings after a few minutes of whining. Currently she does get crated overnight, and when her family have to be out of the house for extended periods of time (2-4 hours). She is totally fine overnight because she knows her people are right there – she grabs her bedtime snack and heads right in with no complaints. When she has to go into the crate when her people are not around, this is the one time she every barks – she’s usually given a stuffed Kong or lick mat to keep her busy, but once that’s done, she will be vocal for about 15-20 minutes and then settles down pretty good. She has a crate available in her foster mom’s bedroom and one in the living room so she can be around her foster siblings.
Sylvie has a moderate energy level. She loves to go out for a walk, but she’s also content to take a nap when her people are busy. She usually goes out in the morning and in the evening for about 20-40 minutes depending on the day. Sylvie is really good on a leash for the most part. She usually walks alongside her foster mom and doesn’t pull very much at all. Sometimes she gets distracted by a really good smell, or when she spots a squirrel or bunny (she does have a bit of prey drive), but it’s easy to correct, especially if you’re mindful of it when out with her.
She is completely house trained and hasn’t had any accidents in the house. She hasn’t quite figured out how to ask to go outside, but she’s been following his foster siblings outside and will relieve herself throughout her walks. Sylvie also seems to be quite food motivated, which is great for training! She knows some basic commands and would be a great pup to continue training with. Since she loves her food so much, her foster family has introduced her to a slow feeder – they find it’s beneficial for her to slow down her eating.
Her foster family thinks Sylvie would be good in a home with or without another dog. She generally wants to be with her people and doesn’t pay much attention to the other pups in the house – but with that said, she has been good with every dog she’s met so far, so no concerns on that front! She hasn’t been tested with a cat, but with her prey drive on walks, we think a house without a cat (or a very dog savvy cat) would be better for her. According to her previous foster family, she is also great with children!
She just wants someone that will take her on adventures, give her all the cuddles, embrace her goofy nature, happy wiggles and tippy taps, and give her so much love! She came into her foster home with such inherent happiness and sweet nature that we know she’s going to make her future forever family very happy!
Sylvie was just spayed on September 10th, so she will be available to go to her forever home as of September 28th.
