Philip is an adorable 8-year-old Beagle with soulful eyes. He is full of curiosity and loves spending time outside followed by a nap. His classic tri-color coat adds to his charm, and his floppy ears are just begging for a scratch!
Background: Philip’s journey began when he was found as a stray in Tennessee, so not much is known about his past. When he arrived in Canada, Philip was scared and uncertain of his new surroundings, however he has quickly shown confidence and happiness in his foster home. His new family will need to be patient with him as he adjusts to his forever home.
Ideal Home: Philip would thrive in a female-only home, with no children or cats, and recommended that he is the only animal. He is excellent with visitors of any gender, however, has shown guarding behaviors towards males living in the home and thus would be most comfortable living with females. Phillip has also shown to be pleasant around cats however can become very stressed and begin growling at cats if there is tension, which is why a no-cat home would be preferred. Phillip loves to spend time outside on walks and a fully fenced backyard would be ideal. He will need to be walked on a leash because although his recall in the backyard is excellent, the smells of the wider world as a scent hound are irresistible to him and he could easily get lost. Although Phillip is quiet, it is preferred that he lives in a larger area, like a house, to allow him space to rest and keep to himself when needed.
Personality: While Philip loves company and being around his favourite people, he’s also content to entertain himself when his humans are busy, and has not shown any destructive behaviors. Phillip is a quiet dog, and very rarely barks. Phillip currently shares his foster home with a medium sized dog who he gets along with very well, and has shown to get along with many small and medium sized dogs. Phillip is excellent in the car.
Special Needs: Philip does show leash reactivity towards larger dogs (he growls when he large dogs approach him during his walks). On walks, Phillip is strictly guided away from other dogs which prevents this behavior and has shown to be very successful. Philip’s ideal home will have owners who will provide structure to him, so he understands he is not the boss. Phillip has learned not to come up on furniture in his foster home to strengthen this messaging as well. His current foster family adores him and finds him extremely easy to be around and love!
