Tobby has been adopted!
Sponsored by Mr Salty from great beyond – not in a spooky haunting way. Letting all new seniors know that their new life is the best one yet.
Tobby is serious older gentleman who seems to be experiencing a new life in foster care.
Tobby was dropped off at a pound in Quebec and the only info we received, was that he has had seizures for the past several years and they’ve been left untreated. Tobby had several seizures in his first week with us, and has since been put on meds for this and we have not seen any seizures since. Thankfully, this seems to be under control now.
Tobby recently had his dental done as well as a neuter and did fantastic while under for these surgeries. He has had his recheck and our vet is pleased with his progress. His mouth has healed up nicely and his blood work is good.
As far as long term health goes, Tobby has dry eye (right eye) and lubricating gel drops are done 2-3 times a day. These are simple human eye drops, inexpensive. He is on phenobarbital, to control his seizures. The cost for this is about $30 for 40 days worth of medication. Routine blood work would be required to ensure his phenobarbital levels remain normal over time.
Tobby has bilateral luxating patella, meaning his knees slip in and out of joint. He doesn’t do well with stairs, so he has to be carried up and down. He can manage a single step out of the house, but can’t seem to do three steps or more steps. So he will need someone who can assist or a walk-out to a yard. He does love to wander outside, likes to go for leash walks and naps on the deck.
Tobby is mostly house trained, but will also use a pee pad.
Tobby would do best in a calm adult home. He’s not comfortable being held or cuddled, it seems he’s never experienced this before. He prefers to nap on a bare floor, no interest in dog beds or couches. He doesn’t play with toys but will show interest in some chew sticks. While he’s a serious guy, he does enjoy being pampered and his ears perk up at the sound of your voice, and a hint of a cheese snack. Watching him learn to enjoy affection has been super rewarding. He’s an easy sweet guy to fall in love with.
