Cider

Cider has been adopted!

Sponsored by Angie Johnson – In memory of her beagle Murphy

Cider is an adorable, loving 11 month old Terrier mix. She came to her foster home all the way from Tennessee where she was a stray. She’s loving Canada and her foster moms think she has a very Canadian personality. Cider thought she had found her forever home but was sadly returned to her fosters because the family didn’t feel they could keep up with with her. Cider is very much a puppy with a lot of energy. She can run really fast, jump super high and snuggle really well but needs constant correction and patience. Cider is one of the most cuddly, sweet and lovey dogs her foster moms have ever met. She loves her people very hard, showering them with kisses and following them around the house. She is so smart, she’s become almost completely house trained (accidents do happen), has improved on her leash, how to sit, stay, wait, and lie down. She loves her crate and goes in it on her own throughout the day for naps. She sleeps in the crate all night happily but also enjoys naps on the couch cuddled up with her people.

Some of ciders favourite things are belly scratches, ripping apart her toys, running in tall grass, licking the morning dew, picking up treasures and bringing them along on her walks and practicing her tricks. She is so goofy and has the most playful personality. Cider likes other dogs and plays well with them but needs a structured introduction because she can get a little carried away with excitement. She loves every person she meets and wants to love on them, often sitting and staring at strangers on walks until they come say hello. She starts every morning with a squirmy roll around in the grass and then comes and has a good morning snuggle before breakfast. Cider loves food and treats as well as praise! If Cider was the only pet in the home she will need owners that are home throughout the day to give her the structured training she needs, someone who works from home would be great.

Cider has a ton of energy, she would do best in a home with another energetic dog to play with or some very active owners. She will likely thrive with experienced dog owners who understand canine behaviours. She rarely barks or whines, if she does it stops after a minute or two. She needs a home with a fenced in backyard so she can run without restriction as her recall is a work in progress and she is very speedy. She can also jump very high but is learning when not to. She loves her foster moms cat but gets a little too excited and chases him so if her forever family has cats they’ll need to be dog savvy and have their own space! Cider definitely likes kids, matching their energy really well. She’s working on her play biting right now and mouths quite a bit. This will be something that her forever family will need to be prepared for and feel equipped to train her not to do as it likely wont be an overnight fix. Her mouthing has never been aggressive or harmful. Cider thrives when she has instruction and so her owners will need to commit to continuing her training, she would do best in regular puppy classes. This is a time commitment her people will need to be prepared for! She’s currently in an apartment and hasn’t barked when she’s heard the neighbours animals, however, she is not an apartment dog. Cider only responds to positive reinforcement and this should be the method used in her forever home.

Cider is truly a special girl and whoever adopts her will have their days filled with love and laughter. She deserves a home with people who love her and appreciate all aspects of her goofy personality. She is such a gift to be around and her personality is amazing. She’s bright, fun, warm and sweet and her foster moms couldn’t imagine a better pup.

A note- Cider did have a UTI when she came to Canada. She’s been on antibiotics and it has cleared up. She was an angel at the vet and did really well with her examination.
