Baaaa rouuuu, that’s hello in dog language. I am so excited to be here in Canada. Things were not so good down in Tennessee until I was taken I. By some pretty nice people. See I was not feeling all that well and when I was taken to the vet, they found out I had Heart Worm and that I am a little over weight. I have been treated successfully for heart worm but please keep me on heart worm meds for 1 year, post treatment, and then seasonally for the rest of my life to ensure I don’t ever get sick like that again. I did receive an injection, that gives me 6 months of protection, already that they gave me when I was getting ready to make the big move but will need to be re- tested, at the appropriate time, by my vet to ensure I am as healthy as I can be. I will need to stay on a good healthy food to ensure I keep the extra pounds off too.
My foster parents and foster brother are great but I really want my own family. So here is my wish list for my new parents.
1. I really like Slow walks. I like to take my time, I hear slow and steady wins the race;
2. Lots of toys to play with. I will fetch sometimes and do really good playing on my own too;
2. I love the backyard when you are out with me, I don’t like being outside alone yet. If you have a backyard it needs to be securely fenced as I will try to go under it if I see something interesting;
3. I do sleep in the crate at night but it’s not a place I would like to be in for long periods of time so, someone who is home more than out would be great. I can be a great work companion and sleep on a bed by you. My favourite place to be is with you and I even don’t mind car rides;
4. Another dog buddy would be nice, one who likes to run around and play would be nice but it’s not a necessity;
5. Treats, I like my treats and I like my food, so healthy, treats to help me keep my figure would be perfect. I promise to take things from you gently.
Foster Mom says she needs to tell you some stuff too, so here is what she wants to say:
Newton is an absolute sweetheart. Lots of love to give, would be in our lap if he could. At 8 yrs old, he sure has lots of energy, jumps up no problem, runs and plays like a younger dog and gets excited about food and new people coming in the house. He does have a prey drive so we do not recommend a home with small pets. He has not been around cats in his present foster homes, but did very well with cats prior to join us. He will need some training on things like jumping up to greet, sit is a work in progress, and knowing what is a toy and isn’t. He has good recall, however, he is a beagle mix and forgets to come when called if he is trying to chase something in the backyard.
He loves slow leisurely walks and tends to walk behind me, unless something catches his eye and then he trots past to get a better look. He just wants to say hello to everyone and every dog on a walk too He walks on a harness very well.
He does have the Beagle bay, but so far has not barked much in the house other than to voice his complaint about being in the crate. It is a big bark though so may not be suited to Apartment/condo living. We think Newton will be great with children 8 and up, as he will jump up to say hello or see what you have in your hand. Did I say he is sweet? He is such a sweetheart with a big heart and love to give. He is great at asking to go out for bathroom breaks, we have bells on the patio door that our dog uses and it seems Newton has figured that out very quickly.
He really is special.
