Bobby

Bobby has been adopted!

Sponsored in honour of my beautiful boy Chester who lost his life to cancer on January 28, 2024.

Bobby is a Westie mix from Tennessee. He is a tiny fellow but big on personality. He gets along well with his 2 foster siblings and the cat. He is housetrained and enjoys exploring the yard after taking care of business. Bobby returns inside when called and settles into his bed or the couch. Bobby likes to follow his foster mom about during the day but settles into his crate overnight.

Bobby’s left eye was removed recently in Tennessee as it was very painful. He has recovered nicely but small children would not be a good choice in his new home as they would not be mindful of this vision loss.

As we do not have a prior history on Bobby we can not be 100% sure of the issue that necessitated his eye being removed. The most likely cause was untreated glaucoma. Bobby had a post-surgery visit at Kingsdale Animal Hospital and he has healed beautifully. As he does have some degree of a cataract in his remaining eye, it has been recommended that Bobby be on an eye medication (1 drop, twice a day) going forward. Due to his history, close attention should be paid to his eye and any changes would warrant a vet visit.

Bobby did have some red and irritated skin when he was first seen. This has resolved well and was most likely caused by fleas. Along with his enucleation, Bobby had a dental. He is a healthy and happy boy.”

Bobby is a very loving boy who wants to be near his person. He has exhibited some separation anxiety and is presently on medication to help with this. His foster mom is seeing steady improvement. Along with the medication, she is giving Bobby periods alone to help build his confidence. He is settling much quicker and it will be important that his new family continues working with him. Bobby’s ideal home is one where he will not be left alone for long periods of time – such as a full work day. Foster mom feels that Bobby would be happy to be part of a multi-person family. Bobby would not be suitable for apartment living as he does bark for a while when he is left. The neighbour has found that the barking has decreased significantly since he has been on medication. Bobby enjoys a long and dog TV when his foster mom goes out.

P. S. from Foster Mom: ‘I do not consider Bobby a “Barky” dog. He only becomes anxious when I leave in the car. I can work in the basement for a few hours leaving the dogs upstairs. No problem. I can have the dogs in the back yard while I mow the front yard. I can visit my neighbour. No problem. The car seems to be the trigger for his anxiety.
