Hello World, let me introduce you to Miss Mindy!
Mindy arrived into our care March 22nd. Mindy preferred to spend the first little while under our table and bed, watching and learning about her foster home from a safe distance. Once she felt safe, this little girl emerged into a brave girl.
Although Mindy loves all members of her foster family, she is very timid around visitors. She is very fearful of sudden movements, loud noises, and people she doesn’t know. Mindy’s fearful reaction comes on strong, barking and standing her ground. Once she is reassured, or quieted, she is shy but willing to interact. Mindy is currently living with three dog siblings and two cats. Although Mindy calmly waits for her turn for cuddles and kisses, I feel she would adore a human all to herself. Mindy is a little protective while eating…and likes to guard treats rather than eat them! Mindy is trying trying very hard to go to the bathroom outside. My suspicion is that she was pee pad trained for her first 8 years and does use one regularly in the house. Old habits are hard to break….she does limit her indoor bathroom to the pee pad only. Mindy does not like being crated, and does sleep soundly through the night in her bed beside her human’s bed. She adores toys, especially soft ones and does keep quite a selection of these toys in her bed. In the morning she greets with a wagging tail and her favourite toy in her mouth. Mindy rushes to the door to greet her foster Mom and Dad, and is quite excited to see them even if it has only been a short absence. Her recall is fantastic, and truly loves to please. Mindy adores the smells of Ontario. She could walk for miles before tiring. If your fitness ring is 10,000 steps each day…this is your girl. Mindy loves to show how she is trained to walk on the left side of her human, and corrects herself when needed. She doesn’t pull when walking, and only barks at other dogs when they bark first. Again, Mindy is quieted quickly and carries on with her walk. I have never let her officially meet a strange dog up close, she is so tiny I would never take any chances.
Miss Mindy loves the sound of her name, loves to cuddle and give kisses, and rides well in the car.
Although Mindy has come such a long way since she first arrived, she does still have memories of harsh treatment, and responds by flattening herself to the floor to brace for punishment, Once she realizes no one is going to hit her, she quickly returns to her happy self and wants to love and be loved.
Her perfect foster home will need to continue this positive environment, one that is quiet and free from children would be ideal. She needs patience as she once again has to learn and trust her new home. She is such a great companion, who wants nothing more than to please.
