Meet Tuffy from Kentucky. This handsome Shepherd mix is between 8-10 years old and 43 lbs. He is housebroken and rarely barks. Tuffy’s favourite things are going for walks (good on leash), cuddles, and meeting new people. He loves to go for short bursts of running at the park and you can see the pure joy on his face. He is a gentle guy who on occasion will walk up and put his head in your hand and look up at you with beautiful brown eyes.
Tuffy was recently diagnosed with Cushings disease and is now on once daily medication to control it. He will need to be on this medication for life. Cushings can cause more frequent urination so he would not be suited to a home where he would be alone for long periods of time. That being said, he hasn’t had any accidents in the house. There have also been some other questions about his health that we do not have clear answers about. Tuffy does have a mass in his adrenal glands which is the most likely cause of his Cushings disease. However, we are not able to ascertain if this is a malignant or benign mass without doing a very invasive procedure – our veterinarian does not feel it is in Tuffy’s best interest to put him through this. Tuffy has elevated liver enzymes which is very common in Cushing’s disease and we do hope to see those numbers improve now that he is on the medication. Clinically, Tuffy has been doing wonderfully – he has been able to gain and maintain weight and is a happy, playful boy. All very positive signs, Being an older fellow, with health concerns, Tuffy may have a limited lifespan.
Tuffy is great with other dogs and has a soft spot in his heart for little dogs. He loves meeting kids and is very interested in cats.
This senior is looking for a cozy dog bed and couch to spend the rest of his days. He loves being cozy and has a lot of love to give. He is going to make his forever family very lucky. Are you the lucky family?
