Meet Roxy!
This tender-hearted lady came to Save Me Rescue after she found herself at risk in a Quebec shelter after being surrendered by her owners.
Roxy is a beagle/hound to the max, she is full of energy, loves to sniff all the sniffs possible and loves to talk with everyone. She will need a family that will be able to give her the exercise she requires to use up that energy and keep her happy. She has been good with all the dogs she has encountered but little dogs aren’t her biggest fan, she tends to be too much for the littles. There are a couple of dogs with her at her foster home, and they all coexist nicely. We think she would be equally happy to be in a home where she is the only pup or larger dogs that would could keep up with her. There are also young kids in the foster home, and she loves them so much. She loves to cuddle with them on the couch or play in the yard. She does play fetch but tends to get distracted by all the amazing smells in the yard!
Roxy does have some medical issues that we are working through. The vet report that came with her indicated some seasonal allergies. At this time, she currently isn’t presenting any symptoms, but it will be something to watch for as the seasons change. Generally, with a specific diet and some medication during allergy season, like humans, allergies can be controlled to where she is kept comfortable.
During her exam with our vet, a heart murmur was detected. Roxy is booked to get an echocardiogram so we can get a full picture of what is going on with her heart and will provide a full update with potential adopters when we get the results.
Although she is a strong independent woman, she does have moments where she gets a little nervous/stressed. We are working on those triggers and how to get her to stay calm. She travels nicely in the car and is happy to go on an adventure with her human!
Roxy is a sweet, young, playful girl. She is fully house trained, sits so nicely for treats and can even take treats gently out of your hand. She can even shake a paw and lay down. She will come when her name is called, but sometimes her beagle stubbornness wins, and it takes a bit of coaxing. She is smart and LOVES food, so is easily trainable with some treats as rewards. She has already progressed so much in her short time at her foster home but will need a family who is willing to continue with her training and guidance. She is great in the foster home, finds a comfy spot on the couch for naps once she gets her energy out. Although she eats her meals in a crate, it is not a place she likes to spend time in, and she makes it very clear. She can be very vocal, true to her breed, so a single-family home would be best for her.
She is left out free reign on the main floor when no one is home and is good as gold. She does bark and whine for a little bit when you leave the house showing her disapproval for being left, but she eventually calms down and finds her couch spot to sleep until you come back. She is doing some counter surfing when she arrived, she just can’t help but follow that nose. But we are slowly working on getting her to understand that that is not a desired behavior. At night she is left on the main floor to sleep alone and is quiet all night. Once morning comes, she is all charged up and ready to run!
Roxy will make a fabulous friend for an active family who can understand and meet her needs. She is a beautiful girl inside and out who just needs to find the right forever home.
