Meet Buffy!
Buffy is a playful, friendly dog. She is medium size with darling eyes and a healthy coat. Buffy is still growing but will likely remain in the medium size spectrum. She will fill out a little more with proper nutrition as she grows up.
Buffy has been an absolute joy to host in her foster home. She gets along well with the resident dogs and loves meeting up with neighbourhood friends and their pups. Buffy has been tested around cats with little reaction. She is friendly with children. She is an energetic puppy but isn’t the type to topple you over. She would do well as a family pet.
Buffy was found as a stray so little is known about her history. Since arriving Buffy has been working on her basic commands such as sit, stay, wait, and lay down. She has also been doing her very best to not jump up and to stay off the furniture. She does well on walks and becomes excited when she sees her harness come out. She doesn’t pull much on leash, usually sticks close to her handler but does wander aimlessly. Buffy is working on being housetrained. She hasn’t had any accidents indoors to date. She is let out often throughout the day and has multiple short walks through the day where she will relieve herself. It’s unclear at this time if she is fully house trained but it was a good sign that she sat at the back door to let me know she needed out. As such a young age, Buffy will need to continue with her training. She will need a family who has the time and patience to put in the work to make her an excellent family dog. She is food motivated – treats have been a big help in teaching her basic commands.
Buffy is crate trained. She enjoys having her own space and will often be found taking a nap in her crate with the door open. She sleeps in her crate at night with the door closed and is crated while I’m out running errands. She happily goes into the crate on her own and is given a cookie for her good effort. Buffy typically lays down and waits for her handler to return, not showing any signs of separation anxiety. Buffy currently eats her meals in her crate as well. She loves to dump her bowl and eat her kibble off the crate tray. Not much of a counter surfer but she will make her way to other food bowls belonging the resident pets. She has been pretty good at listening when told those bowls are not for her.
Buffy has a healthy appetite. Her motto is walk, eat, sleep. She is currently a little underweight and is given food freely where she grazes throughout the day. Buffy loves her water. She is a sloppy drinker, leaving trails of water behind after she quenches her thirst. Best to have a towel under the water bowl!
Buffy is such a sweet pup. She loves to sleep by her handler’s side during the day and often shadows me while doing stuff around the house. She is a really friendly girl who aims to please.
Buffy had a rough start to life. While in the shelter she tested positive for heartworm and has since been treated. Life will be a little slow for her over the next few months, taking it easy with only moderate exercise. Luckily, she is a laid-back dog who does not protest a good long nap after her short walk!
