Lucy is adopted!
Lucy / Female/ Spayed/ Terrier Mix / 8 years old / 30 lbs / Adoption Fee is $300.00
Lucy has joined our rescue after spending the last 3 1/2 months at a Southern Ontario veterinary clinic. Lucy originally entered the clinic with a fractured pelvis and put on bed rest. During this time, her owner suffered an accident of their own and spent months in hospital and is now in a long term care facility. The vet clinic could no longer keep Lucy and with her owner no longer able to care for her, we were happy to welcome her.
When she came into the rescue it was found that at times Lucy had some lameness and would not use one of her rear legs. After an examination by one of our vets, Lucy was put on medication which has helped greatly. She is using all four legs more but at times will still walk on only three.
An orthopedic surgeon that we closely work with feels that Lucy does not need surgery and the fracture is healing. As is known with these types of injuries, both sides can be affected and X-rays did show some sub-luxation of the sacro-iliac joint which does not require surgery.
Lucy may need anti-inflammatory medications periodically and would also benefit from glucosamine.
Since arriving at her foster home, Lucy has been a complete joy to have around. Her tail has hardly stopped wagging. Lucy has not let her injury slow her down and since starting the medication; she has been even more active. Don’t let this girl’s injury or age fool you. She loves to play with her people and her toys, especially her stuffed elephant and ball. She also enjoys the backyard and has been seen running around enjoying her freedom. Lucy gets along with other dogs but would also do well as an only dog (as long as you are willing to deal with lots of slobbery toys thrown on your lap!).
You can tell Lucy was well cared for her in her previous home. She loves her people and being around them. She is around 40 lbs but considers herself a lap dog. She loves to be rubbed, especially on her belly. She will lie in your lap for lots of belly rubs! She shows her appreciation by giving lots of kisses! She also enjoys her quiet time and will go onto her bed or into her crate on her own to sleep.
Lucy walks well on a leash and as she heals, her foster mom and dad have slowly been increasing the length of her walks. She loves going for walks and when she knows its walk time she will sit nicely at the door until you are ready.
So far, Lucy has been a pretty quiet dog and has only barked occasionally. She doesn’t complain too much when placed in her crate while her foster parents are out running errands.
Due to Lucy’s injury, it is recommended that her future home does not have young children but she would be okay with older respectful children.
Lucy’s personality matches her pretty markings and she is a great dog that is looking for her forever family.
