Gilbert arrived into our care in 2023. In fact, we are approaching his two-year anniversary in April, as we continue to search for his very own family. Sadly, we have had little interest in him.
Upon arrival, this 8-month-old (at the time) puppy was just bursting with personality! As he settled into his foster home, we realized he would benefit from training. Specifically to work on his social skills with both humans and dogs. While Gilbert LOVES his people, his lack of training left him unconfident and unsure in new situations.
Gil went into a training program with North Grey K9 in Owen Sound. He spent time learning how to greet new dogs and new people. Gilbert loved the rural setting where he could run, play and explore the property. He gained confidence and became a more balanced dog. While he’s not without quirks, he’s a very adoptable 3-year-old pup now, and is still searching for his forever family.
Gilbert is temporarily staying in Toronto. We wanted to see how he would appreciate city life and hoped that a more central location may draw some new interest in him. We reached out to his foster mom and asked a few fun questions:
- What do you think is Gilbert’s best quality?
- Hands down, it’s how snuggly he is
- If Gilbert’s love could be bought, what gift could you give him to win his heart?
- FOOD! The way to Gilbert’s heart and absolutely through his stomach.
- Does Gilbert have a favourite friend at daycare?
- Gilbert is mutual with all dogs. His preference is a respectable dog with good social skills. He plays and runs with the others but prefers to have his own space for sleeping and high value items.
- If Gilbert could describe the perfect day, what would it look like?
- A perfect day starts with a bit of a sleep in, followed by a delicious big breakfast. He’d hit the backyard for some off leash adventure to get in some morning exercise and get the heart pumping. A mid-day chewy would hit the spot before snuggling up in some blankets for a nap. He’s perfectly happy to let others make plans for him, so long as he can join. He just likes to spend his down time being wherever his people are. His sweet and curious attitude will keep everyone entertained.
- Does having only 3 legs slow Gil down at all?
- Not in the least! Gilbert is fast on three legs. He runs, plays, and explores places like any other dog would (including stairs!).
