Shayna’s Story

Shayna was found abandoned in Tennessee, barely surviving beneath a discarded mattress. She was in rough shape – malnourished, suffering from a severe case of mange and clearly neglected for a long time.
A rescue volunteer stepped in to get her the help she needed and Shayna began her long road towards recovery.

Under the care of the team in Tennessee she received medical attention and slowly started to improve. Her sweet nature shone through and she quickly captured the hearts of both staff and volunteers.
Once she was well enough, Shayna was transported to Canada through Save Me Dog Rescue, where a foster family was waiting and her treatment began at Kingsdale Animal Hospital.

After months of care and healing, Shayna was finally cleared for adoption and found what everyone hoped would be her forever home. Unfortunately, a disruption in her care routine led to a serious flare-up of her skin condition.

She returned to Save Me so that her treatment could continue and be properly managed.

To better support her long-term health, extensive allergy testing was done and a serum was formulated specifically for her needs. She’s still in the early stages of this treatment but with time and consistency there’s hope that her condition will stabilize. Moving forward, Shayna will need ongoing maintenance injections and regular medicated baths to keep her skin healthy.

Now approximately 10 years old, Shayna weighs just 10 kilograms but she has the attitude of a much bigger dog. She is loyal, expressive and full of personality. She has bonded with her foster family and tends to regard strangers with suspicion but once you’re in her circle she is all heart.

Her favourite things include hanging around on the wooden deck (grass allergy) and long afternoon naps.
Shayna’s journey has been anything but easy, but she continues to show resilience and heart.

Her care is ongoing and donations to Save Me Dog Rescue will help towards
covering the cost of her treatment and ensure she can keep moving toward a stable and comfortable life.
