Update:
Unfortunately we have another upsetting update to share. Sassy Cat’s histopathology report showed that she has a very rare type of mammary cancer. At the time of her surgery, when 6 mammary tumours were removed, what was believed to be an infected gland was also excised. Not only was one of the masses cancerous but the cancer had spread to the inguinal lymph nodes.
Sassy Cat’s tumour has been classified as high grade and being metastatic already, gives her an unfavourable prognosis.
We are grateful that Sassy Cat has loving foster parents, and foster grandparents, who will love and care for her, for the rest of her life. She is truly the sweetest of dogs and our hearts are broken that she is yet another dog whose life will be unnecessarily cut short. This was completely preventable had Sassy Cat been spayed at a young age.
Sassy Cat has recovered well from her surgery and is enjoying being loved on and pampered. She is blissfully unaware that hard times are ahead. Just like her sunny nature she found a beam of sunshine to lie in and enjoy. We will be carefully monitoring her health and make sure that she has all she needs to enjoy the rest of her life. We are grateful to our supporters who make it possible for us to care for our forever fosters.
Sassy Cat has been quite the sweetheart since she arrived here! Sassy Cat was loved her whole life, but her and her siblings were placed in a rescue in Tennessee when her owner’s health declined. She made the journey to Ontario on January 18th and everyone who helped get her here fell in love with the sweet little beagle that she is!
She enjoys naps in a cozy dog bed and is quite content to relax while her foster mom works during the day, but she is also willing to go out for a short walk (when it’s not too cold) or play with a snuffle mat for some snacks. She’s not bad on a leash, she just loves to sniff!
Overnight and any time she needs to be left alone, Sassy Cat goes into her crate. She might whine a little bit at first, but she calms down quickly and cozies in there until she can be let out again. She actually really enjoys having the crate and will bunker down in there during the day to take a nap sometimes.
Sassy Cat has been going out for bathroom breaks routinely throughout the day and knows that’s where she needs to do her business. If she isn’t given those breaks, she might have an accident in the house, but as long as she goes out on a regular basis, she is good!
She has that cheeky beagle side that pops out every so often when there is food around! She is also eats with a slow feeder bowl because she likes to eat very quickly. She’s on the thinner side, so she could use with gaining a little bit of weight.
She’s generally very quiet and doesn’t even join in with her other dog foster siblings when they get riled up – the only time she makes some noise if when she’s looking for her people, or when she whines a bit going in the crate.
She currently lives with three other dogs and there have been no issues at all – she’s generally very sweet and docile.
