Poppet is a very affectionate pup and despite her being afraid of almost everything, is very curious when she feels safe. Her name comes from the movie, “Mrs. Doubtfire”.

This little girl arrived from an Ohio puppy mill in late February, in desperate need of surgery for hip dysplasia which was making movement of her back right leg most uncomfortable. Save Me answered the call to help and their orthopedic specialist agreed to perform an FHO. He was very satisfied with the outcome and her prognosis is a bright future! Poppet was able to put full weight on her leg within a week. Her recovery has been stellar. She will need continued uphill and stairs exercise, daily walks and encouragement to use all four legs. This will help to build up much needed muscle.

Having spent most of her life in a cage, Miss Poppet is very inexperienced and would thrive with an adopter who already has a small dog to act as mentor. Introductions need to be gradual. She is still unsure of toys but loves to chew on her reindeer bone. She has a mischievous personality and loves to be outside, keenly discovering all the new smells. She has learned to bark at the birds and squirrels and has the potential of being quite the chaser when her leg is ready for running. We has become a wonderful walker on leash but busy streets are overwhelming.

Being a wonderful sleeper from day one, Poppet finds her bed on the floor quite comfortable and does not complain when it’s bedtime and has to move to her own bed after evening cuddles. Because of her background, she has not been crated and has had free run of a limited area of the house when left alone.

Poppet would do best in a place where someone is home most of the time and since she is small and timid, an adult home would be best. A fully fenced yard is a must. There is so much to learn and being a smart little thing, she will come along quickly. She housetrained within a week. She is just beginning to alert to sounds, especially the door bell. She has a loud, sharp bark so a condo/apartment living isn’t recommended. She tolerates a crate well during car rides.

Poppet is spayed and has all vaccines up-to-date. This sweet and timid girl is such a doll and would love a patient family who can help her be the very best dog. Poppet has been through the most restrictive part of her post surgery rehab and will need someone to continue with
her walks and activities that will help her build muscle. Her surgeon expects her to have a full recovery and a future without the hip pain she had been living with.
