Meet Good Girl Goldie!
Goldie came to us from a shelter in Kentucky in mid-October and was underweight at that time. Although we do not have any information on how she came to be there or what her life entailed prior to being there, we do know that despite her past she is the sweetest, most loving senior girl! Goldie remains underweight at this time due to some medical challenges that we are still trying to manage.
Goldie currently lives with 3 other resident dogs. Although she co-exists well with them, she would definitely love to be the only dog soaking up all the attention! She can have a bit of a jealous streak with her “competition”, so she is not left unsupervised around them. She has not been around young children, cats, or other animals so it is unknown how she would respond to them. However, she is a big love bug with her foster mom and has occasionally met other adults who she didn’t take long to warm up to.
Goldie is a pretty clingy girl, always wanting to be near her foster mom when she is home. During work days, Goldie is crated which is not her favourite thing. She is anxious when foster mom is not around, so initially she was very unsettled and barked continuously when in her crate. However, she has made so much improvement with this. She sometimes settles quickly and goes to sleep, while other times she is awake and just observing her surroundings (when foster mom checks in on her through the camera); overall she has much less barking, although still does this periodically during her crate time.
Goldie is fully house trained and will make it known when she needs to go out, which is frequent (she either goes to the door, paces around, or at times will bark). She does have a pee pad in her crate which she does use to urinate on through the day, but this is expected as she is left for 8-9 hours during work days.
Goldie is quite spry for a senior gal and absolutely loves going for walks! She is fabulous on leash and is clearly happy when she is out walking in the fresh air. She also loves to eat! She would likely keep eating more if she was allowed, but she is fed a specific amount twice per day. She is also learning to play fetch with her stuffies and really seems to love this, especially with smaller toys. As well, Goldie is a great co-pilot on car rides and enjoys looking out the window to watch her surroundings go by.
Given Goldie’s barking and need for access to a yard frequently for pottying, she would do best in a house setting rather than an apartment.
Goldie came into rescue with a number of health issues. Her mouth was extremely diseased and this had a detrimental effect on her overall health. While we did see significant improvement in some areas, once her dental surgery was complete, her breathing difficulties remain. Diagnostics have not been able to determine the exact cause but it is believed that she either has an obstruction or severe scar tissue in her sinuses. At this time, Goldie is not a candidate for anaesthesia, which would be needed for an MRI. We continue to work with Goldie’s wonderful veterinarians to find the best way to help her.
Goldie continues to be medically managed at this time, so is currently in our TLC program and is not yet accepting applications.
