Sponsored in memory of Bobby from his groomer, Nancy.
Unfortunately Chloe’s histopathology report was not what we had hoped for. Her tumour was cancerous and there were also malignant cells present in numerous of the surrounding blood vessels. This raises the concern for metastasis and more aggressive tumour behaviour. We did discuss, with her veterinarian, whether or not to pursue chemotherapy for Chloe and it was decided, that since it would not possibly extend her life in a meaningful way, that we are not going to go that route.
Chloe is going to live out her life with her wonderful foster mom, Josey, as a palliative dog. Her quality of life will be our guiding force. Our hope for every dog who comes into rescue is that they are loved and cared for, for the rest of their lives. Although this is not the journey we had envisioned for Chloe, we are grateful that she too will be loved and cared for for the rest of her life.
Had Chloe been spayed at a young age, she would not have developed mammary cancer. Spaying before the first heat 100% prevents the formation of mammary tumours. Each heat raises the risk. Very sad that this was entirely preventable for sweet Chloe.
