Hi there…. I’m Woof! No, not the noise…it’s actually my name (although I do speak woof as well)!
I was born in a place with LOTS of other dogs…I hear it’s called a puppy mill and isn’t a very nice place to be. I’m only 2 years old (will be 3 in a few months), but for some reason they didn’t want me any longer. I was taken in by a lady who also took in other dogs from the same place I was from, and she took such good care of all of us. She even found a rescue in Ontario who wanted a chance to love us and help us find our very own families! So for now, I’m living in what they keep calling a foster home, with my temporary mommy and her other doggies, while I make friends with them and they get to know all about me.
Foster mommy says I’m such a sweet, sweet boy with a bit of a sassy streak. She’s gone away a lot of the time so she can make money and buy us good treats and toys. She’s come back home a couple of times to find that I’ve chewed up some of her things that I shouldn’t have, I guess. I’m not sure if I was feeling a bit anxious when she was away, or if I was just curious and didn’t know better, but I’m learning slowly that I need to leave certain things alone. I really didn’t like being in a crate or even a bigger pen area, so foster mommy has learned to put certain things away so I won’t get into anymore trouble.
I do most of my “business” outside, and foster mommy tells me I’m such a good boy when I do those things…it’s great! At first she made me wear a diaper around my belly because she didn’t know if I could wait all day or if I would have accidents when she was working. I did have some accidents in the diaper for a few days, but I’m doing much better already now! I’m really proud and I think that makes foster mommy happy.
I think the other doggies in my house are pretty cool and we get along ok, but I also like foster mommy’s attention and get a little growly when they get too close to me or to her when we’re together. Apparently that’s not a good thing, even though I think I’m just showing how much I love my foster mommy. But I’m trying to do better with this too.
I really like going for walks, but there’s a lot of noises and action around which sometimes make me scared. Foster mommy uses 2 leashes on me for now, just in case I get really scared and try to run away. I also get really stiff and freeze up when she picks me up, but it’s just because everything is all so new to me. Even stairs are new… I can do a few at a time no problem, but not those big staircases….nope, I’m not quite understanding how to do those just yet.
Everyone who sees me says what a handsome boy I am…and I totally agree, of course! I know I don’t have much life experience, but I’m learning more and more everyday and I think I’m a darned good catch! Foster mommy does too! She tells me that one of these days, I’m going to have my very own family and they will be so lucky to have me. I think I need a family who is very patient, kind, active, and have a yard I can play in. I know I still have things to learn, but please give me a chance. I will make you proud…I promise!
