Little Miss Thelma, the perfect balance many hope to find in a new companion. She barks only when it is appropriate and does not have that yappy tendency. Her energy is like a light switch. Thelma loves the outdoors and has every chipmunk in the yard on alert, running at top speed if they are bold enough to show themselves. When her work is complete, she comes inside, the switch turns off, she settles in her bed, couch, lap, or on top of the other dogs, a sweet cuddle muffin. Thelma is small enough to be tag-along friendly and not too small to worry about falls from the couch or tripping over. She can keep herself amused with her ball or stuffies, but is always open to someone joining in the fun. At 3 years of age and with an underexposed past, she needs practice playing gently and acts more like a puppy. Thelma uses her mouth in play but does not bite down unless you are a stuffie, then you are in trouble. She corrects easily as she is very smart. You must use only positive reinforcement and never a loud voice for her success in this. Yes, her breed is a bit of a mystery. I googled her face and it kept coming up with identical matches of those ears and that face with “chiweenie”. No matter what she is, you can’t deny the fact that she is pretty darn cute. Thelma is also fully housetrained. Now that you are aware of just how wonderful this little girl is and how well she could fit into your family, here is what will be required for her needs at this point.

Coming from a hoarding situation, Thelma has grown up knowing everything about being a dog but lacks the exposure and trust that comes from being raised by caring humans. She is not going to be the dog that runs up to you with tail wagging and offering kisses the first time she meets you. Her reaction will be avoidance, tucked tail, and uncontrollable shaking. Interacting with people has not always been a positive or familiar experience. Thelma needs time and patience to learn to trust. When she feels secure and confident, the change in her will amaze you. She is full of joy, kisses, laughs and adventure. Thelma is worth every second of love you put into her. She also requires a home with a dog. This will help ease the transition and everyone has a new friend. Spread the love. Does this sound like your family? or Your situation? Do you already have a pet who might want a companion? Do you have the time and patience to wait for Thelma to blossom into her true self? If you have any questions feel free to contact me and I will be happy to help you get to know her better.
