💖 Meet Sailor – Our Little Moonlight Warrior
Hi, I’m Sailor! Just like my namesake Sailor Moon, I’m brave, loyal, and learning to shine brighter every day. 🌟 I spent the first chapter of my life in a breeding facility, so this big, beautiful world is still a bit overwhelming. But with the gentle guidance of my foster mom, I’m discovering that love, safety, and family life exist—and they’re pretty amazing!

My favorite place is outside in the yard, you can find me under my favorite tree or wandering around the garden exploring. It’s my peaceful retreat. Indoors is still a bit of a mystery to me, but I have a special safe space with my crate and x-pen where I can nap, stretch, and snack. I feel secure there, and I’m perfectly content to be alone while my foster mom runs errands.

🌸 My Progress So Far
I’m working hard on getting comfy with gentle touch, leash walking, and even sleeping on the couch with my foster brothers. You can follow my journey on Save Me Rescue’s social media—there’s lots of cuteness and courage to see!

🐾 A Note from My Foster Mom
Sailor loves the yard. It’s where she is most comfortable. She will spend all day outside. She’s “graduated” from preferring to be in her crate on the covered porch to spending all of her time in the yard sleeping in the grass and under the trees. This is a big step for her as the crate was very much her comfort zone.

She’s getting more comfortable on walks and is excellent on a leash. She’s been navigating the country roads very well and even visited the beach and a small town recently. She does great in the car in her crate. We’ve been going slow and starting with quiet locations to avoid overwhelming her.

💫 Why Sailor is Special
Sailor’s progress has been significant in the house but this is where she needs the most work. She is still very anxious. Just recently she has started sitting on the couch with her foster family in the mornings and in the evenings. If her foster Mom gets up too quickly or moves too fast she will run to her crate. She’s made amazing progress in the last month. However, this is an area that she’s likely to experience a setback when she moves in with her forever family.

🌟 What Sailor Needs
Sailor’s ideal home is one filled with patience, kindness, and gentle encouragement. If her first experience with something is positive, she’s eager to try again. Think you might be the right fit? Take a look at some of the options that would be best to support Sailor on her journey.

A quiet, patient household. At this stage, Sailor is still very nervous around people. Running, playing, trying to pet or hug her are all things that she wouldn’t be able to tolerate at this point. A house without children or with dog savvy children is a must.

A fenced yard. This would be ideal for Sailor. The yard is her happy place where she feels safe, confident, and free to explore. It gives her the security she needs to continue her journey toward becoming the brave little moonlight warrior she was born to be.

An only dog or a respectful companion. Sailor has met several dogs on walks and in controlled settings and she’s mostly disinterested. There have been a couple of instances with her foster brothers (10lbs, 12lbs) where she engaged in rough play but she disengaged as soon they moved away and didn’t pursue. It’s clear that Sailor is still trying to figure out how to interact with other dogs. She would do best in settings where her interactions can be observed and managed. While she hasn’t been cat tested, the breed does have high prey drive so a household without cats would be ideal.

Moderate activity. At this point it’s hard to tell how much activity Sailor will need. As a former breeding dog, she likely had no options for enrichment or exercise. Right now, she’s walking about 4-5k a day with her foster brothers. The rest of her time is spent in the yard. She loves toys but hasn’t shown a lot of interest in enrichment puzzles yet.

Alone time. Sailor is great being left alone. She settles in her create/x-pen area with no issues. She’s been left alone for about 4 hours/day. She is also fully house trained and extremely tidy which is very typical of the breed.
