Rusty

Northern Mix – Male – 25 lbs – 3.5 months

Rusty is one of the most easy-going, laid-back puppies we have ever fostered! He loves to play with our dog but is also wonderful at entertaining himself if she is having a nap. He LOVES toys and a good play session with other dogs, but he also has a really nice off switch. He isn’t an overly mouthy puppy so would do well in a household with young kinds. He loves to be involved and is normally close to the action, but he isn’t an overly affectionate puppy and even at a young age has that classic northern independence. At nighttime he is wonderful in his crate which we keep in our bedroom. He goes right in and sleeps through the night without issue. He is also fully house trained and hasn’t had a single accident while in our care!

He walks beautifully on leash and although he can be a bit nervous in new situation once he has a chance to observe is ready to jump in on the action. When he is really excited, he likes to talk to you but we have been working on not rewarding him when he demands attention with his voice and are already seeing lots of improvement! One thing Rusty struggles with is being crated alone. When we are close by or at night, he is wonderful but when crated alone he gets very worked up. We think this has a lot to do with the fact that he was crated with his sister until very recently so being on his own is new to him. Right now we are only crating him for short periods of time and ideally would be looking for a home where he wouldn’t be crated for long periods.

Rusty has been coming to work with me and is the perfect office dog. Quite, politely greets everyone in the office and is happy to entertain himself for hours as long as there are lots of toys around!

At 3.5 months Rusty is 25lbs so although we don’t know his exact breed make up its safe to assume he will be a large dog. We have been working hard on not allowing him to jump up and on his leash manners keeping his future weight in mind.

Rusty is such an incredibly sweet pup who we have thoroughly enjoyed fostering. Even our cranky dog who typically doesn’t like puppies adores him!
