Ruby is a beautiful reddish brown poodle. She is a very sweet, gentle, curious, and incredibly brave little dog who is learning what it means to be safe and loved.

Ruby is a former mill mama who came from a terrible breeding mill, and understandably, the world is still a pretty scary place for her. She is timid and submissive and needs a special person who understands that earning the trust of a mill dog takes time, patience, consistency, and a very gentle approach.

Sometimes, Ruby still cowers in her bed when I approach her, but what makes her so special is that she wants to trust so badly. Every day she becomes a little braver, and every little step forward feels like such a victory. Ruby loves to follow her foster mom around the yard. Actually, she is much more interested in her foster mom than her foster sister. However, she would do well in a home with another dog and even a cat.

Ruby is doing wonderfully with her routine. She is housetrained, with continued support and regular opportunities to go outside. She is also comfortable being left alone. At night, she sleeps peacefully in her bed right beside her foster mom’s bed. She LOVES going for walk, especially when she can walk slightly behind her person. She’s still learning that the world is safe, and some loud noises still frighten her, but she has made significant progress and is becoming more confident every day.

Ruby‘s dream home would be a quiet, calm patient and loving environment, ideally with a fenced-in yard with another dog present in the home. Her person should understand that Ruby won’t become an outgoing dog overnight. She needs a person who will celebrate her small victories every day.
