Sponsored by Gema & Craig, in honour of our two love bugs Woody (formerly Devin) and Dixie, Save me Rescue alumni, who over the last 3 years have brought so much joy to our family. We love you both with all our hearts and look forward to making more memories with you both.
Medical: Odie came to us with a long-standing wound to his neck that was not healing. We had cultures and a biopsy done and 3 different bacterial infections were found. With this knowledge, he has been able to receive the proper antibiotics and is healing beautifully. He has a final vet check-up June 11th and then we expect him to be ready for his forever home.
Meet Odie — although these days he happily answers to “Buddy,” a nickname his foster mom started using when he arrived in care and immediately perked up to. It suits him perfectly, because he truly is a wonderful little companion.
Odie is the kind of dog who quietly walks into your life, steals your heart, and makes you wonder how you ever lived without him.
This sweet, gentle guy has an easygoing low-to-medium energy level. Calm and quiet in the home, fully house trained, and non-destructive, he settles beautifully into everyday life. He has not required crating in foster care and is happiest simply being included in whatever is going on around him.
He thrives on companionship and would love a home where he can be part of daily life. While he doesn’t need intense exercise, Odie enjoys getting out and about with his people and would thrive with one or two easy walks each day, some playtime, and whenever possible a car ride too! Thanks to his quiet nature, Odie could do well in either a house or apartment, though he would certainly enjoy having a yard to explore.
Odie is friendly with other dogs and has previously done well with cats, too. He enjoys canine companionship but would prefer another easygoing playmate over a rough-and-rowdy or highly energetic dog. He’s also wonderful with respectful children and happily welcomes new people both at home and out on adventures.
He travels exceptionally well in the car and cheerfully joins his foster family on errands, visits, and outings. While he enjoys relaxing and cuddling with his people, he also has a playful side and loves squeaky toys, tug games, chasing a Chuckit ball, and digging for toys hidden under blankets.
Outside, Odie enjoys leisurely walks and relaxing yard time — especially if there are birds, squirrels, or bunnies nearby to supervise. He walks nicely on leash and especially enjoys a good “sniffari” stroll where he can take in the world around him. Odie has shown some excitement when he spots other dogs on walks and may offer a few barks, but it appears to stem from enthusiasm and wanting to say hello rather than discomfort. While we have not allowed on-leash greetings, Odie has been consistently friendly, social, and appropriate with dogs he has met in other settings, including at the office and through fence-line introductions.
Odie will require regular grooming, possibly professional, and is wonderfully cooperative for handling and care. He calmly tolerates brushing, baths, paw checks, eye cleaning, and medication. He does seem sensitive to having nails his trimmed at home, so that may need to be done professionally.
At the end of the day, Odie is a loving, loyal little companion who is happiest sharing everyday life with the people he loves. If you’re searching for a gentle sidekick and devoted best buddy, Odie might just be your perfect match.
