Sponsored by Caroline and Randy, in loving memory of our (unbeknownst to us at the time) puppy mill pups Sophie and Spike who would be celebrating their 14th birthdays today (April 20th)
Welcome to the sweetest little Cocker Spaniel, Nala. She was rescued from a puppy mill in early April and came into care immediately. She readily settled into the household with the company of another dog. Nala has had complete vet care and all her tests have come back negative. She was spayed and at the same time a small mammary mass was removed, tested and determined benign. This is quite common in older females spayed later in life and recurrence is reduced by 50%. It would be wise for future occasional monitoring for possible development of additional mammary neoplasms. The vet also identified Dry Eye which is easily dealt with human grade eye gel found at any drug store.
Over the last few weeks Nala has learned about elevators, doors, stairs, city traffic, all of which she has taken in stride. She loves to go outside for a good sniff and a tour around the neighbourhood. She walks well on the leash, is happy to say hello to the all the dogs that go by and looks for a pat from people she meets. Nala is well on the way to learning to do her business outside and although she has the occasional “accident” inside, these moments are greatly reduced.
Nala was quite frightened of being in the car but again she is much more comfortable with each new ride. She is harnessed in the back seat and after a few minutes tends to lay down and rest.
At home, Nala prefers to sleep in her crate, door open, throughout the day. She sleeps throughout the night in the crate and waits patiently for a family member to get her up. She eats and drinks well and seeks out affection very appropriately. When she is excited she looks as if she is laughing and drops down on her belly all wiggly piggly. She loves to paddle after her foster mom or play with toys and the other dog in the house. Nala is very quiet, doesn’t bark or whine, ideal for an apartment setting. She will be available for adoption around the first of June after she has her dental cleaning.
Although the vet has approximated her age around 10 years, Nala has the look and moderate energy of a younger dog. She is an ideal dog for a family or single person who is looking to give her a forever home in her 3rd act!.
