Meet Lily!

Lily is a tiny, five-year-old Maltese who spent the first years of her life as a breeder mama. Despite her difficult start, she is an absolute sweetheart with a heart of gold and endless love to give.

Since coming into foster care, Lily has been experiencing so many “firsts” and is learning how wonderful life can be as a cherished companion. She can be a little shy in new situations or with new people, but she’s brave and adapts quickly once she feels safe.

Lily gets along well with other dogs, though she hasn’t yet initiated play. That may be because her two foster brothers are senior pups who aren’t playful anymore. Still, she enjoys their company and finds comfort in them. She would likely thrive in a home with another calm, confident dog her size to help show her the ropes and boost her confidence.

Lily currently lives with two children and is very gentle and loving with them. Because sudden movements can startle her, she would do best with respectful, dog-savvy kids who will be patient and kind, especially given her small size.

She has made wonderful progress with house training. When kept on a schedule, accidents are rare. On walks, she gets easily distracted by all the sights, sounds, and smells, so she doesn’t always finish her business. For that reason, a fenced yard is a must to help her succeed with potty training. At night, she sleeps uncrated and has had zero accidents.

While Lily isn’t a fan of being crated with the door closed, she was comfortable resting in one when the door was open. These days, she prefers curling up on a dog bed beside her foster family’s bed—or even at the foot of their bed. She is left free in the home when her foster family goes out and is not destructive at all, though an occasional accident may happen if she hasn’t gone potty before they leave. She may whine a little when they go, but she settles quickly.

Lily is a resilient, loving little girl who doesn’t let her past define her. She’s looking for a patient and caring family who will continue building her confidence and show her what it means to be truly loved. In return, she will be the most loyal, gentle, and affectionate companion.
