Sponsored by Lynda Gallagher – in loving memory of Mike Stein
Greta is a sweet 7-year-old Havanese weighing about 4.5 kg (10 lbs). She is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and has had her dental work done. She is non-shedding and pee-pad trained. She is hoping to find the patient, loving home she deserves.
Greta spent the first seven years of her life in a puppy mill, where she was used for breeding. She was only recently rescued and is now, for the very first time, learning what it means to be a beloved family dog.
She is a smart little cookie and a remarkably quick study. Greta watches the two dogs she is living with, taking everything in and learning from them. She looks to them for comfort and confidence, so she needs a home with another understanding, friendly dog who can continue to help show her the ropes.
Greta is mastering walking on a leash and really enjoys getting outside and exploring. She will need a home with a secure yard where she can safely enjoy her newfound freedom after spending so many years in a puppy mill.
Like many former mill dogs, Greta can be both curious and cautious when meeting people. She may initially be unsure and needs time to feel comfortable with people.
Once Greta gets past that initial caution, a very sweet little dog emerges. Learning from the other dogs in the house, she is quick to join in for pets and affection and will happily cuddle up on the couch with everyone. At night, she runs to jump into bed with her people.
One area that will need attention is Greta’s discomfort with being picked up and held, a common issue with mill dogs. She often moves away to avoid being picked up. Her adopter will need to patiently build her confidence, allowing her to learn that being handled can be safe and positive.
Greta would do best in a home without young children. With Greta, patience is the key—and the reward is watching her discover the life she deserves. To learn more about Greta, watch her video at: https://youtu.be/YjYh19vSlOg?si=5nA_3zyl0QIEs3ut
