Sponsored by the Tait family in loving memory of Cyril Stein
Elfy is a tiny girl who is as quiet as a mouse, and often timid like one too. She’s the sweetest girl who would love a nice calm, quiet home to spend her days napping in.
Upon arrival, Elfy was in need of a dental, a mammary mass removal and x-rays to try and diagnose her wobbly, off-balance gait. With respect to the dental, she surprised us all by not requiring any extractions (this is rare for such a tiny senior mouth!) and her mammary mass came back clear of any issues. Her blood work is pretty much perfect as well. Though she does have a heart murmur, rated at 3/6, she did excellent under anesthetic during her surgery. Elfy does have a slightly arched back, and her walking is off balance, however x-rays showed nothing of concern. Her reflexes during physical exam were also normal. Our veterinarian found no medical reason behind her wobbly walk. She gets around very well, she even does the stairs. Some days her walk is a little more off than others, but overall, it has not worsened over the past month of so that she has been in our care.
While Elfy is welcoming to everyone, shows a stronger affection for her foster dad. Her eyes light up when he comes home from work and she follows him everywhere. Foster mom will do, but foster dad is clearly her preference. She can usually be found curled up in her doggie bed by his computer, or snuggled up beside him on the couch. Elfy is friendly, but can be nervous, so an adult home would be best. Visiting children would be ok, as long as they’re respectful of her tiny size. Elfy ignores the other dogs in her foster home. She would do best with another senior or quiet respectful dog, or as an only dog. She would not enjoy living with a young rambunctious dog, she enjoys her peace and quiet too much.
Elfy is mostly house trained. She does not know how to ask to go out, but she does do her bathroom business when she is taken outside. It seems she may have been peepad trained in the past. If she is not taken out regularly, she has had accidents on an area rug near the back door. While she doesn’t love being crated, she will curl up and nap there when her foster parents are out of the house, as long as it has just the right amount of soft cozy blankets (this girl loves a nice plush comfy space for her naps).
It seems that Elfy has some hearing loss. She often does not hear her name being called from other rooms, and you can startle her when you approach if she’s in a deep sleep. Her foster home tends to gently place a hand on her to wake her up, before lifting her. Elfy is very quiet, not a single bark has come from her. She would be ok in shared living spaces such as a condo.
Elfy is a super sweet girl. She enjoys naps, car rides and loves to be underfoot in the kitchen.. just incase there is a human food snack to be had. She makes the best little quiet companion.
