Eldora

Bernese Mountain Dog – Female – 85 lbs – 4 yrs

Sponsored by Chris Ryves – In loving memory of Dessa who was adopted by SMDR

Introducing Eldora, or as her foster parents call her “Dora”. Eldora is a stunning 4.5 year old pure bred Bernese Mountain dog; up to date on vaccines, spayed and has even had a dental cleaning. She may be 85 pounds but she is similar to the elephant fearful of a mouse. When Eldora closes her eyes and dreams of a family all her own she thinks of a quiet home with a very consistent routine; where she will have lots of time to come out of her shell. Eldora needs to build her confidence with owners who understand it could take weeks before she ventures out of her “safe zone” to seek their company. But, in the meantime she is an “easy keeper”. Eldora is housetrained, non-destructive and good with dogs of various sizes and cats. Eldora is currently living in a foster home with a 6 month old, and while she is good with him she does not wish to be in a home with children who are noisy and can’t understand that she prefers quiet time and will need time and space before she is ready for pets and snuggles.

Eldora has lived her life in a kennel and therefore even the simplest things are new to her: living in a home, having a name, interacting with people on a regular basis.

Ultimately, Eldora wants a quiet place to rest her head with people who will honor her needs and respect her process of finding herself. Eldora’s foster home is working hard to make her feel comfortable and secure right now, but if you feel you could be the perfect match for Eldora please email.

Eldora is very nervous and shut down, her foster family is working hard to gain some trust and encourage her to come out of her shell. She will continue to receive some extra care as we determine the type of future home she will need. Please check back for her availability status.
