Sponsored in celebration of a dear friend’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Tanya!
It was love at first sight for close friends of Dumplin’s foster family after meeting her and have applied for this sweet girl. Definitely one of the perks of being friends of those who fosters is that you get to meet lots of great dogs!
Dumplin’, aptly named for her humble beginnings in a Tennessee garbage dump, is a delightful little sweetheart who hasn’t let her past as a stray get her spirits down about the future! Dumplin’ wakes up happy as a clam each day, and remains happy throughout the day. She’s been known to let out a squeal-bark or two if she’s in her crate throughout the day, but is able to settle herself quite easily. She’s a quick learner who loves to play, is responsive to feedback, and aims to please. She loves to be rewarded with affection, and is sometimes indifferent to treats. She made fast friends with her foster brother Ron, who is an 11 year old coonhound, and expresses a healthy interest in all kinds of dogs whenever she’s out on the town. She has had limited exposure to cats and young children, but seems indifferent to them in the limited interactions she has had. She has never displayed signs of possessiveness or reactivity. During her transition into her foster home, she was very overwhelmed and easily scared by loud noises (like traffic) and walking on a leash, but very quickly settled in and found her place. She was initially very scared in the car (presumably because of her long journey to Canadian citizenship), but now sits calmly and quietly with her seatbelt on, looking forward to her next half-Timbit. Her confidence is definitely still evolving as Ron teaches her how to dog. When she’s under- or over-stimulated, she’ll let you know by licking/mouthing, pulling the stuffing out of soft toys, or humping. She’s easily redirected, and she would absolutely love, and thrive with, some basic obedience training. She loves to be pet and snuggled, and carried like a baby. She is fully crate and house trained, and has never had an accident in her foster home. She has never tried to escape or bolt out the door, but continued care should be taken as she adjusts to her new forever home. She walks well on a leash, but could use some work in understanding that she’s the perfect size to cause a serious face plant. Dumplin’ is a velcro dog— she loves to be with her foster parents at all times, whether it’s helping them go to the bathroom, cook dinner, or squeezing herself in the smallest space between them in bed overnight. As such, her beautiful (and plentiful) long black hairs can be found in all of the aforementioned places. Because she’s estimated to be around 3, she does have enough energy to keep up with you on a couple of medium length walks per day, but could also compromise with less if she has some other activities to stimulate her (like a chew toy or frozen kong). She loves her Purina Pro Plan diet, and has recently discovered the delights of peanut butter and sweet potato. She would prefer a forever home with someone who works from home, and/or a home with a confident and relaxed dog to keep her company. Dumplin’ is truly a perfect little princess and deserves to live out the rest of her days luxuriating in her own magnificence.
