Hello, my name is Doxie and I am looking forward to getting my own family. I am a 5-year-old (DOB: June 11, 2020) black and tan short haired mini dachshund and about 10 pounds. I am a bit timid and I sometimes back away from being picked up but I also seek being picked up to cuddle in foster mom’s lap. I have given foster mom kisses and my tail is always wagging. I have discovered the big teddy bear foster mom has for the dogs and curled up on it. I have also cuddled with the resident dog. My appetite is good and I will take some treats. I haven’t met any children but foster mom thinks I would be okay with respectful children.
I love to roam in the back yard and I usually come in when foster mom wants me to especially if the resident dog comes in too. I met foster mom’s friend’s big dog and I was fine with him.
Foster mom has another small dog, a small foster dog, and several cats. I have discovered the cats and I am curious about them. I don’t know if I should play with them or chase them. However, one of them swatted me and I am more cautious now. I tend to follow the other dogs around but we really haven’t played. I am finding more energy as I get more comfortable with my surroundings.
Foster mom thinks I am funny. While foster mom was out, she left me in the dog room with a baby gate and I greeted her at the front dog when she got home. Repeat the next day and the baby gate was still in place. So, the next day, she left me loose in the house with the resident dog in the dog room. I didn’t greet her when she got home, I was in with the resident dog. I really like him. I haven’t barked in the house but have barked at people going by. I am housetrained.
The ideal home for me should have another similar sized dog. You need to be patient with me as I learn to trust people. If you have cats or respectful children, I would be okay with that. It would be best if you have a secure backyard so I can enjoy being outside.
