Hi everyone – I’m Doris! I travelled to Ontario all the way from Kentucky, where I was staying in a local shelter after apparently having been picked up as a stray dog. There is no information on anyone surrendering me, and I can’t tell people what led me to be there, so they think I was likely found wandering around, no family in sight. I don’t think I was out very long though, since I do have a little extra “junk in the trunk” and will be needing to work on trimming my waistline a little. Anyhoo…. the lovely people with Save Me Dog Rescue spotted me and knew I was worthy of a new forever family of my own, so they brought me all the way across the border to Canada to give me a brand new life! So let me tell you a little, or maybe a lot, about me…

I’m estimated to be approximately 7 years old, but I’m showing some of that “frosted face” look so my foster mommy wonders if I might be a little older. Either way, I’m a grrrrreat gal with so much to offer someone, but it has to be the right someone! Don’t worry, I’m not all that picky. I pretty much love everyone! I think I’m a good mix of enjoying being active but I also like to chill at home, as long as I’m near my foster mom. I absolutely LOVE going on walks, and will even run! I also love spending time in the backyard, being that nosey neighbour and trying to see what’s happening through the fence, and even chasing and barking at the other little animal friends who live outside (don’t worry, I’m not allowed to catch them, but I probably would if I could). However, I’m just as content lying beside (or on top of) my foster mommy while she’s relaxing on the couch. I follow her around the house as much as she’ll let me, but if she’s busy doing something then I will usually just have a nap until I can be with her again.

I also have 2 foster fur sisters and 1 foster fur brother who I have tried to play with many times! Unfortunately, they aren’t quite as interested in me as I am in them. I think I would really like a fur sister or fur brother of my very own who would want to play with me, but I’m sure I would also be fine getting all my family’s attention to myself! Although I do LOVE my walkies, I do go a little crazy on leash, so will need more time practicing my manners. I also have the craziest scream when I’m excited, and I think strangers walking by are probably wondering if mommy is hurting me. But nope, I’m just super excited!

When I first arrived to my foster home, I wasn’t quite sure where to piddle, so I had several accidents for a while. However, I’ve been learning to use pee pads if needed, or even better yet I try to hold it until I can go outside. I hope my new family will be understanding that I may have accidents for the first while in my new home, and may want to mark my territory – but I’m sure I will learn where to go, just like I have here. My foster mommy works a lot through the week and unfortunately I can’t go with her, so I stay home. I would really, really like it if my forever family is able to be home more often, if possible. Some might call me anxious or needy, but I just say I’m very loving and want to be close and express my love all the time!!

Ok, ok, I guess I admit I am a little anxious. When my foster mom goes to work, I whine and howl for a little while before I settle down to sleep the day away. She says this means I would not be good for an apartment and need my own house instead. Well, that’s perfectly fine with me, since I really like going in the backyard quite frequently! Foster mommy also tried crate training me (actually I had a big x-pen area all to myself), but I really didn’t like it. The more days we tried it, the worse I reacted. She finally gave in and stopped making me use it, except for when I eat – which is another thing I love!

Sooo…. let’s summarize all the wonderful points about me: I love walkies, I love relaxing, I love eating, I love cuddling….I think that’s all you really need to know for now!

Oh, I also just had surgery, so foster mommy wants to make sure I’m healed before she says goodbye to me. She says I was such a brave girl – I had 3 rotten teeth removed and some lumps and bumps removed from my body. I wonder if I’ll be able to run even faster now! I’m not allowed to do that yet though.

If you agree that I’m a really great catch and you’d like to know more about me, reach out to my foster mommy quick, before someone else scoops me up!
