Dolly is sponsored in memory of Julie, with the wish that she will be as loved and adored for many years, as Julie was.

Dolly was born July 3, 2026 into a local farm breeding situation. When it was discovered that she was unable to walk (and could not be sold with the rest of the litter) she was surrendered to an advocate for discarded mill dogs. We were contacted to see if we could help Dolly out and we welcomed her into our care.

She is under the medical supervision of Kingsdale Animal Hospital. Dolly’s x-rays were sent to a specialist and unfortunately the report showed that she has a number of vertebrae that are markedly deformed and an upper motor neuron lesion (damage to her spinal cord). There are some other irregularities in her x-rays that are of lesser impact to her present condition. All of this is going to be further explored with advanced diagnostics. We are presently waiting for a consult with a neurologist at OVC and whatever next steps they feel is most appropriate. We will also be consulting with Dr. Levy to determine if orthopaedic surgery can play a part in helping her.
It is the opinion of the radiology specialist that Dolly’s injuries stem from trauma and is not something she was born with. It is a miracle that she was able to compete for a spot on mom, to stay nourished, with such profound deficits. She is one smart and determined girl and we see what a fighter she is every single day.
One of Dolly’s legs is showing significant improvements. Foster Mom, Colleen, has been working with her as suggested and one of her legs is bending and moving. The other leg remains ramrod stiff as of now. Until she has her neurology work up and all the pertinent information is known, formal physiotherapy is on hold.

Dolly is a happy and very active puppy that does not let anything stand in her way. She has no idea anything is wrong with her, and she can do pretty much everything any other 9-week-old puppy can do, except walk on all four paws. She scoots and shuffles her way along and is remarkable fast too! Dolly is exploring the world around her, making friends with the other dogs in the foster home and enjoying life to its fullest.
