Chiquita

Chihuahua- Female – 3 lbs – 9 yrs (approx.)

Sponsored for my Golden Girls, Daisy (Blanche), Tulo (Dorothy), and Abbey (Rose), all rescues around 12 years old. The loves of our lives.

Meet sweet girl Chiquita! There’s a ton of sweetness packed into this tiny 3 pound body and if you love to snuggle, this girl is for you!

Chiquita came into the care of Save Me, along with some other chihuahuas, at the end of May from a hoarding situation. We were told she is very shy and almost fearful, which was evident immediately with frequent shaking and hiding in her crate. But her curiosity soon got the better of her and she learned to venture out of that crate to see what her new home had going on. She has learned to trust and now gives tail wags and even does little zoomies occasionally! She gets excited to be with her foster mom and climbs up (as high as her little legs will let her) on her foster mom’s legs, which is her way of asking to be picked up.

Chiquita sleeps great in her bed during the day as well as overnight and has a stuffed animal that she loves to snuggle with. She uses a pee pad in her crate to do her business, but is also great with going outside when she is in the backyard. She has not been on an official leash walk yet, but has done great when on leash heading into the vet building. Chiquita is also a fantastic co-pilot in the car and snuggles right into her car seat with no problem. As well, she is an extremely quiet girl and foster mom has not even heard her bark as of yet. She has, however, given the “lip” and little growls when the other dogs in the home get too close into her personal space. She seems to be a bit dog-selective, as she comfortably snuggles into one of the other dogs but growls at another.

Chiquita would likely do best in a quiet home, with or without other pets and older children. If there are other pets or children in the home, their size, energy level, and manners need to be taken into consideration, as her tiny size and frailty can make it easier for injuries to occur.

Chiquita has now had her spay and dental surgery and only has a mere 3 little teeth left in her mouth. For this reason, she will always need to be on a soft food diet. She would also benefit from gaining a little more weight, so that is a work in progress. At this time, she has been too frail to get her vaccines, but is scheduled to have them all updated very soon. Once those are done, and she is healed from surgery, Chiquita will be ready to find her most perfect forever home! Could that be you?
