Sponsored by Heather, in loving memory of Buster, our first rescue. Buster was found wandering the streets in the darkness of a cold, rainy October night; discarded as if he was nothing, Buster was Bear’s bestest buddy and completed our family turning our house into a warm, loving home.
Barbara Jean (aka Barb) is a sweet approximately 7 year old cocker spaniel ex-mill momma. Barb has the hair of a rock star and loves to be centre stage for attention too. She will happily greet you with the most fierce wagging tail of happiness!
Barbara Jean came into rescue with a few badly fractured teeth and has since had 4 extractions, a cleaning and her spay. She’s feeling a million times better now.
Barb has confidently learned how to go up and down stairs, and jump on and off the couch all on her own! She can be quite the snuggle buddy and does like to be close by her people. So far she is not comfortable with the restricts of a leash, so she will need someone who can help her learn how to walk on a leash. For this reason, an adopter will need to have a secured backyard so she can continue on with her house training with easy yard access.
Barb has shown some resource guarding behaviour in her foster home and her future adopter would need to be aware of this, and be willing to work with her on this behaviour. I would recommend a home with older respectful children only, or an adult only home for Barb.
Barb has been fostered in a home with other dogs and cats, she is showing to be a little bit more on the dominant side with the other dogs as she comes out of her shell more but she hasn’t been aggressive or mean towards them at all. Barb would do well in a home with other respectful dogs who will give her space. I also feel like Barb would do well in a home as an only dog, she does like to be near her people though so if she was the only dog in the home I feel like she would benefit from someone home throughout the day with her. Barb has shown no interest in the cats and would be fine in a home with a cat as well.
Housetraining is still new to Barb but she is well on her way to being house trained. Barb will go on pee pads in the home, and will go out back to the yard to do her business with the other dogs as well. Barb does great at sleeping through the night with no accidents!
