Sponsored by Mary Lou Knightly – Every dog deserves a safe and loving home
Amber is a tiny girl with a huge heart, a soft spirit, and the best underbite you’ve ever seen. After surviving a difficult past, Amber is learning that the world can be a safe and loving place. She has the fastest tail wag, as long as she’s close to the humans she trusts.
Amber came into rescue after living in severe neglect. She experienced a life of trauma that left her feeling insecure and fearful of everything around her. When Amber first came into care she was covered in flees and had some skin issues as a result. She has patchy hair loss that is healing and regrowing and she is super soft. Amber does not do well when confined to a cage and goes so far as to try to hurt herself in distress, so crating her is absolutely not an option. Amber remains gentle, kind, and eager for affection once she knows she can trust you.
Amber is cuddly, sweet, and incredibly gentle. She loves snuggling in your bed, on the couch, or curled up on your lap. She’s curious in a quiet way, observing her surroundings and sticking close to her “person.” She can be timid and easily startled, but her desire to love is strong. She does not like to be picked up, but will allow it if you go slowly and we suspect she will soon love it. She will run from new hands at first and won’t allow pets initially but eventually she’ll melt right into your hand and fall asleep.
Amber needs a calm, low-activity household with someone who spends a lot of time at home. She isn’t a fan of walks so far, but this may change as the snow melts. So far she pretty much turns into a statue as soon as her paws hit the snow. A friendly resident dog would be good for her, as she looks for another dog to take the lead. Amber will need to work on her independence and her adopters should be prepared to work with her on this once she’s settled in. She can be quite vocal when left alone so this should be considered when applying.
Amber is housetrained, mostly. She refuses to go in the snow and is confused by puppy pads, so her future family will need to continue her potty-training routine with patience and consistency. She has had accidents in her foster home but is working on it. When in care in the US (without snow) she had no accidents and went outside perfectly, snow is definitely the problem. Amber should not be crated at all, even for housetraining and responds really well to positive reinforcement.
Amber deserves a quiet home, a soft voice, gentle hands, and a lot of love. Someone willing to move slowly, celebrate small victories, and let Amber unfold at her own pace.
If you’re looking for a tiny companion who will love you with her whole heart once she feels safe, Amber is ready to make up for lost time in the love and affection area. She is a very sweet special girl who needs a special person to show her what “forever” feels like.
