Philip

Philip has been adopted!

Sponsorship is from Lesley in loving memory of my Bernie the Westie, who I miss always xoxo

Description: Philip is an adorable 8-year-old Beagle with soulful eyes. He is full of curiosity and loves spending time outside followed by a nap. His classic tri-color coat adds to his charm, and his floppy ears are just begging for a scratch!

Personality: Philip is incredibly affectionate and loves nothing more than hanging out with his favorite humans. He is polite to everyone we introduce him to, whether they are 6 or 80. He is curious of other dogs, but has indicated that he is afraid of larger dogs. He gets along well with medium and small sized dogs. He has lived with cats during his foster journey and we believe that he could live with a cat. As a scent hound, he loves spending time outside, exploring all the scents nature has to offer. He will need to be walked on a leash because although his recall in the backyard is excellent, the smells of the wider world are irresistible to him and he could easily get lost. After a walk, he’s more than happy to curl up for a nap, and he is quite relaxed and happy to lay around the house during down-time. He is excellent in the car.

Background: Philip’s journey began when he was found as a stray in Tennessee, so not much is known about his past. However, his first foster home had nothing but glowing things to say about him, describing him as the sweetest Beagle they had ever met. When he arrived in Canada, Philip was scared and uncertain of his new surroundings. His new family will need to be patient with him as he adjusts to his forever home.

Ideal Home: Philip would thrive in a loving home where he can be part of the family. A family who would love to spend time with him outside on walks and in a fully fenced backyard would be ideal. While Philip enjoys company, he’s also content to entertain himself when his humans are busy.

Special Needs: Philip arrived to Canada with leash reactivity (he growls when he sees large dogs during his walks). His foster family has worked with a trainer and they have made fantastic progress with Philip’s leash manners. Philip’s foster family will be able to pass on the knowledge and skills they have learned so that Philip’s forever family can continue to build Philip’s confidence when he’s out and about on leash walks.

Philip’s ideal home will have owners who understand how to provide structure to him, so he understands he is not the boss. Phillip has learned not to come up on furniture in his foster home to strengthen this messaging as well. His current foster family adores him and finds him extremely easy to be around and love!
