Introducing Sophia, a beautiful 5.5 year old blue merle French Bulldog! Sophia is proof that great things come in small packages, at just over twenty pounds she is small for her breed. But her size in no way slows her down, she is an energetic (for her breed) goofy girl who loves to run around in her foster home’s backyard and frequently attempts to entice neighborhood children to play with her.

Sophia loves being the centre of attention, and is the ultimate sidekick following her foster family everywhere they go. Sophia appears to particularly enjoy the energy of children and is very attentive and patient with the neighborhood children and her 8-month-old human foster brother. However, Sophia demonstrates her excitement by jumping up which is something to mindful of with young children and is being worked on in her foster home.

Sophia likes to play with other dogs and can get along well with them but is bossy and does not like to share the attention for prolonged periods of time, she becomes jealous of the other dog and may try to chase them away (if they let her get away with it). For this reason, she would prefer to be the only dog in the home. Sophia has not been tested with cats.

Sophia comes from a high-volume breeding operation, also known as a “puppy mill”. So, living in a home and having people care for her are new concepts. She still figuring out stairs, going up is fine but coming down is scary. She doesn’t pull on leash but isn’t entirely sure how walks work yet and is a bit anxious on busy roads. Sophia is newly house trained but will need good habits reinforced, such as crating when no one is home and being let outside on a regular schedule. Sophia LOVES sleeping snuggled up under the covers next to her foster mom in bed. Sophia also loves to curl up, cuddle and watch television with her foster family.

Sophia does well in her crate but because she is a very social girl she wouldn’t like to be left for extended periods of time.

Sophia has been spayed, is up to date on vaccines, has had a dental cleaning AND nasal surgery to make her breathing easier (being a brachycephalic breed this greatly improves quality of life).
