Meet the Winter Litter!
Lumi (Winter in Finnish)
From the moment Lumi opened her eyes and ears, she has been the most observant puppy in the litter. The first few weeks after opening her eyes she was quite shy. But with each day and new experience she gets braver and has recently has been the first to greet new visitors to our home. She will need a home committed to slow, positive introductions to new experiences. A confident older dog would be a great role model for her and she would also love the companionship of calm older kids. Lumi is middle of the pack in terms of energy and enjoys wrestling with her siblings before settling in for a long cuddle and nap. This girl is an absolute sweetheart and has become a favorite in our home!
These beautiful hound mix puppies were born on December 26 and have spent the past six weeks growing up in their foster home where they have been exposed to lots of dogs as well as people big and small. With the help of their mom and foster mom, they’ve been given a strong foundation to grow into well socialized, happy, and healthy adult dogs.
They will be ready to head to their forever homes at 8 weeks old on February 20 and will have received their first vaccines and all age appropriate vetting prior to adoption.
Their mom June, is a 40 lb beagle mix who is remarkably sweet, gentle, and mischievous, just like any good hound. As far as hounds go she is a quiet dog who you only hear bark when she is really excited! Dad is unknown, so adopters should expect these puppies to grow to be medium-sized dogs. While the pups are mixed breed, adopters who have experience with hounds or an appreciation for hound traits would be ideal. The puppies are already proving to be very food and scent motivated and are currently medium energy.
Medical Note for Mom: Momma June is heartworm positive and will be starting her treatment as soon as the puppies are fully weaned. There is no concern with her passing on heartworm to the puppies. In very rare instances, a puppy may have some microfillaria due to small transfers of blood during birth. However, these microfillaria can not become adult heart worms and will clear on their own or be resolved by a dose of prevention. Your puppy will be given a dose of the appropriate medication at 8 weeks, which will serve as their 8 week worming dose, as well as heartworm, flea/tick prevention. Like all dogs, your puppy will need to start their seasonal preventatives late spring.
Due to current winter temperatures, formal house training has not yet begun. However, all puppies are litter trained and should transition quickly to going outside when weather allows.
