With heavy hearts, we recently said goodbye to Buck, a gentle soul whose final chapter was filled with love, comfort, and devotion. When Buck arrived into rescue, nearly a year ago, it quickly became clear that he he was facing significant health challenges, including congestive heart failure. His persistent cough often made for long, sleepless nights for both Buck and his foster parents.Yet through it all, Buck remained sweet, resilient, and grateful for every moment of kindness shown to him. Due to his age and complicated health issues it was decided that he would become a “forever foster”.
With the help of many medications and the unwavering dedication of his foster parents, Buck was able to enjoy a life filled with warmth, security, and affection. He especially adored his foster mom, always following her from room to room with his wagging tail and loving eyes. With his foster parents, Buck found what every dog deserves — safety, comfort, and unconditional love.
Over the past month, Buck’s health steadily declined and despite every effort, the medications could no longer keep him comfortable. The heartbreaking decision was made to give Buck the peaceful goodbye he so deserved. Surrounded by love and held in the arms of his devoted foster mom, Buck left this world knowing he was loved.
Though his time in rescue was far too short, Buck’s life was forever changed because of fostering. He may have become a “forever foster,” but in truth, he became “forever family” to John and Carey. These wonderful people have fostered many palliative dogs and have known this heartbreak far too many times. Our gratitude to them is boundless.
Run free, sweet Buck. You were loved. We are grateful to our wonderful supporters who make it possible for Save Me to care for palliative dogs, like Buck. We would also like to express our thanks to the Brealey Drive Animal Clinic, in Peterborough, for the care and many kindnesses for Buck.
