Shayna’s Story

Shayna first came into Save Me Dog Rescue in early March 2023 after being found living on a mattress in a garbage dump, suffering from a horrific level of neglect. Her skin was among the worst our veterinarian had ever seen, and we can only imagine how uncomfortable and painful life had been for her.

Shayna was fortunate to have Marc and Jackie as her foster parents. Her treatment was extensive and required a great deal of time, dedication, and a strict routine. With their commitment to doing everything necessary, Shayna healed, her skin improved, and her hair grew back. The beautiful dog she had always been emerged.

Once medically cleared, Shayna was adopted. Sadly, the routine required to keep her healthy was not maintained, and she soon relapsed and returned to Save Me and the care of Marc and Jackie. Once again, they devoted themselves to getting her back to health, putting in all the time and effort she needed.

Knowing how important it was for Shayna to have consistent, specialized care, and wanting to ensure she remained under the care of Dr. Tara Montgomery at Kingsdale Animal Hospital, we were very happy to make Shayna a forever foster. She could remain with the people who knew her best and who loved her so dearly.

Over the last several months, Shayna began experiencing seizures, believed to be caused by a brain tumour. Medication helped initially, but the seizures became more frequent and lasted longer. It recently became clear that the kindest thing we could do was let Shayna go peacefully, surrounded by the people who had given her so much.

We are profoundly grateful to Marc and Jackie for loving Shayna as their own, for their unwavering dedication to the demanding routine that kept her healthy, and for their many generous contributions toward her care. They gave her what all dogs deserve – safety, comfort, consistency, and a life filled with love.

We also extend our sincere thanks to Dr. Tara Montgomery for her commitment to Shayna, leaving no stone unturned in identifying the contributing factors to her severe skin problems and finding a way to heal and manage them. Because of that care, Shayna was able to live out her life in comfort.

Shayna came to us  from circumstances no dog should ever have to endure. We are so glad she became a part of Save Me, where she was given the chance to heal and to know what it meant to be loved and cared for.

Rest peacefully, Shayna. You were so very loved, and you will be missed.
