Wolf has been adopted!
Sponsored in celebration of a loving couple’s 11th wedding anniversary
This beautiful boy is Wolf, who recently flew from Attawapiskat down to Kitchener to begin his journey in finding his forever home! Wolf is a very sweet, goofy, playful pup, who has been friendly with all the other dogs and people he’s met!
Since Wolf used to live outside, he was unsure about being in a home when he first arrived, but he has certainly come to enjoy the comforts. He doesn’t really understand the use of a dog bed quite yet, but a nice rug to lay on seems to be all he needs! With that said though, he still likes to hang out in the backyard napping in the breeze, so a backyard would be a must for him.
He enjoys having people and other dogs around him, as it makes him feel like he’s part of a pack. This is what he was used to in the north, so a fellow dog companion would be great for him. He’s currently hanging out with 4 foster siblings and gets along great with all of them.
He doesn’t seem to be overly food motivated but seems to enjoy a mixture of kibble and canned food. He’s refused some treats (and even peanut butter!), so it might take a bit of time to figure out exactly what he likes to snack on.
He was recently neutered, so we’ve only been taking him on a few shorter walks throughout the day – he loves them! I can already tell he’ll be up for all sorts of outdoor adventures! He’s been really good on the leash. He pulls a little bit, but is easily corrected, and he doesn’t get overly distracted by anything. He doesn’t seem to care when he sees squirrels or cats out and about.
He’s completely house trained and hasn’t had any accidents in the house. He doesn’t really know to ask to go outside, but he’s been following his foster sibling outside and will relieve himself throughout his walks.
He wasn’t a fan of being in a crate, so he’s been sleeping on the floor beside us at night. After a couple nights, he’s figured out where he’s supposed to go, so he flops right down and doesn’t really make a peep until the morning.
Since he is such a big boy, he has the reach to do a little counter surfing, so we’re working on correcting this behaviour by pulling him down and saying “down”. This is the same command we’ve been using to keep him off the furniture as he works on his house manners.
I think Wolf would be well suited to a family that can be home throughout the day to take him out for walks. He would be good in a home with or without another dog. He hasn’t been tested with a cat, but doesn’t seem to have any prey drive, so I can’t see that being an issue. Similarly with children, he hasn’t been tested with children while he’s been here, but the community he comes from has a lot of children, so he has been introduced to them in the past.
Wolf just wants a forever home that play with him, take him on adventures and give him a lot of love!
