Dogs

Duke

Duke has been adopted!

Sponsored by Nicole M., loving memory of George Rounthwaite, her friend’s cocker spaniel rescue.

Meet Duke! This little lad came into the shelter in quite a state. He was so badly matted that he had to be shaved right down to the skin. Duke is currently in rehab while we treat a skin infection. With or without hair, he’s still adorable!

He’s a friendly guy who is good with other dogs. However, he wants to make BEST friends with every dog he meets and wants to play nonstop. So he would need a playmate who also has lots of energy and enjoys other dogs as much as he does. He doesn’t seem to read the social signals when he’s playmate has had enough. He seems good with cats, but can be a bit over the top with them. Wants to play and if he doesn’t get the same response he will bark to try to initiate playtime. So a home with a very dog social cat, or no cat at all would be best.

Duke is just settling into his foster home, but he seems to have quite a bark when left alone, so an apartment would likely not be suitable. He loves to run and play in the yard and also follow and watch what his people are doing. Duke is looking for a loving home with a comfortable lap to curl up on.

We’re working on house training, and he seems to be understanding but he will need to be taken out often to instill training for now. Crated when unattended would be ideal as he appears to have no issues with crating. He’s quiet in his crate during the day.

We’re working on house training, but feel the issue is more marking then not being trained. Duke has just been neutered, so this should stop in the next few days.
