Dogs

Axel

Axel has been adopted!

This dashing young fellow comes from an indigenous reserve in Northern Ontario. Axel and his siblings were rescued by an organization that works with Northern communities to reduce the population of dogs by providing spay/neuter and taking unwanted dogs and puppies. Save Me Rescue is proud to assist in finding amazing forever homes for these puppies, that are referred to as “Nordic mixes”. What is a Nordic mix? They are often a combination of Husky, Shepard and Lab, but you never know quite what you are going to get!
Axel is approximately 10-12 weeks old, he weighs 6.3 kg (13.8lbs) and could weigh up to 70-90 lbs fully grown. So don’t let his small size fool you!!
He is the social butterfly of the group and loves to meet new people. Axel is highly intelligent and eager to learn. In the short time Axel has been in Foster, he has learned stairs are no longer scary, cats are okay but have terrible breath if you get into their personal space, sitting patiently gets dinner and one on one time, the crate time is quiet time/bedtime and was the first to learn potty time is to be done outside… but being a puppy is still in need of training. Axel sleeps in a crate, covered with a blanket throughout the night providing no light or sound occurs.
Axel has had his first medical exam on March 4/19 at which time he received his first booster shots. He was also dewormed at this time. Axel’s black and tan colouring could change over time as his colour and coat indicate shepard/husky mix. As an adult, he will require weekly grooming due to his husky breed (are heavy shedders). Bathing has gone over rather well as well as nail trimming but do require gentle reassurance as this is all new.
Axel is now looking for his very own forever family. An active family/individual that has the time to take him keep him well exercised, once fully vaccinated. A fenced yard for additional exercise is a plus. We highly recommend training for Axel. Training will teach him to look to his owner for direction, assist with his socialization and also teach him the basics that every dog should know.
As with most puppies, we are typically overwhelmed with applications. We do appreciate your patience as we consider each application, and also your understanding if yours is not selected at this time. Please do watch our website and Facebook page, as we do have puppies from time to time and also consider other dogs in care that are in need of a loving home.
